Loy Krathong

It is one of the most beautiful festivals that takes place here in Thailand that is celebrated on the full moon of November (it was last night).

The word loy means to float, and a krathong is a banana leaf cup. People place a candle and incense sticks in their krathongs and then float them on a local river or pond. As they push away their krathong, they ask for forgiveness in polluting the waterways and also for good luck in the coming months.

Along with the krathongs, there are around 20 floats parading the Chao Phraya River...

This is actually my second time to celebrate the Loy Krathong. So there wasn't really anything special to look forward to anymore. I just had dinner with my Thai officemates by the river at a restaurant called Coco Castaways.

Unfortunately for us, we did felt like 'castaways'... hungry and irritated. We arrived there around 730pm, we ordered food immediately and entertained ourselves with the music, some picture-taking and the float parade. But can you believe that after almost 2 hours, there still wasn't any food?! One of my officemates had to barge in the kitchen and actually started nagging the staff. LOL. Good thing we had KFC and Pizza Hut delivered at the restaurant! It was a pathetic dinner, but nonetheless we were still able to enjoy each other's company with our reliable friend, Mr. Johnnie Walker.
